It's hard not to smile when Harold is around

Harold really would make a terrific pet. He has the funniest facial expressions. He always seems to be looking up from under his eyelids. He's also funny when he sleeps because his legs go in every which direction and he grumbles and groans as he shifts positions. I like to think he's dreaming about his forever home.

The greatest thing about having spent time with Harold is how much he's opened up over the last month or so. He's come into his own and is so much more happy-go-lucky than you'd ever know if you only met him once. Come meet "Harry" this Monday evening at LaundroMutt in Adams Morgan.

Come Meet Harold and Other Great Dogs This Sunday

Come meet Harold and other great dogs at the Homeward Trails Animal Rescue adoption event

when: Sun, September 20, 3pm – 5pm

where: PetMAC - 4220 Fessenden St NW Washington, DC

Harold to take on Tenleytown

Harold will be making another public appearance this weekend at the PetMAC in Tenleytown. Please come hang out with him at the Homeward Trails Adoption Event from 3:00 to 5:00 pm on Sunday. PetMAC is located at, 4220 Fessenden St NW Washington, DC 20016-4072.

Harold is such a sweet dog. He is so affectionate and so well behaved. He loves to give hugs and kisses, but he is also just as content chewing on a bone or trying to figure out a kong. He's responding really well to people now, turning and coming when called even when he's investigating something really interesting.

Harold develops a broader fan base

Harold had a great weekend and met a lot of new people. He's not skittish, but he is a little shy. He handled it all like a champ though.

He met many new people, adults and children, at the adoption event at Pet Mac. He is very gentle and seemed to be drawn towards the children. That was very nice for me to see. Harold also went to Adams Morgan Day. He was sporting his snazzy new "Adopt Me" vest and got a lot of attention. Everyone wanted to say hi, and again, he was very indulgent of the attention. For a country dog, I was very impressed with how well he handled the crowd. He took it all in stride and everyone kept complimenting his behavior and remarking how calm he is.

Harry is confident that there's a great forever home out there for him because he met so many dog people.

YAY HAROLD!!!

Harold is coming along wonderfully. It's always hard for me to imagine that he didn't have a home before Homeward Trails rescued him. He is very happy in the house and is very respectful. He's young, so he's excitable but still considerably more calm than his 5 y/o foster brother. Harry hasn't had an accident in the house in over two weeks, and he even asks to go out. I've pushed him to his limits in the morning by finishing my entire routine before taking him out, and he still did not have an accident. I think I can say with confidence that he is completely housebroken. He is crated during the day, but is loose at night. He sleeps through the night on a dogbed in my bedroom that I've had for four years but my own dog has never been interested in using.

Given his past, it also amazes me that he is so affectionate. He loves to nuzzle into you then look right up into your eyes. It's really quite touching. Harry would make a great companion for almost anyone!

He loves the dog park and tends to engage in the pack. This is great because he wears himself out running around with all the other dogs. He will also chase after a ball but only brings it back about half of the time--but that's good for a hound!

I've been working on his commands, and he has picked up quite a bit. He knows sit, lie down, and goodnight (go in your crate). We are working on OK (release word from sitting or lying down). He's picked up these commands so quickly, I'm disappointed in myself for not having taught him more at this point.

Harry is a really sweet pup who would love to have a forever home where he can share his affection and provide loyal companionship.
